A Visit to the Mosque and a Renewed Connection
29.03.2024
Today, I felt drawn to visit the new mosque being built in my neighborhood. It had been a while since I'd actively connected with my Muslim faith.
I was raised Sunni Muslim. My parents are devoted practitioners, for whom prayer is an integral part of life, not just an obligation. Despite their dedication, they instilled in me an open mind and respect for all faiths. This was evident when they sent me to a Catholic high school.
At the time, I didn't understand their reasoning. Now, as an adult, I appreciate the value of interfaith exposure. It fostered an understanding of diverse beliefs and the importance of acceptance. All religions, at their core, promote goodness and living authentically.
This exposure enriched my life and prepared me to be more accepting of others, regardless of their religion.
During my visit to the mosque, a deep need for guidance and solace welled up within me. I found myself fighting back tears. Maybe I craved God's or Allah's direction, a higher power to listen without judgment. I realized that faith provides a guiding light and a sense of purpose.
After Friday prayers, I joined a relative who volunteered at a mosque offering Iftar meals during Ramadan. Helping others has always been a passion for me. It's a small act of magic, a way to extend a helping hand during challenging times. Even small gestures can create positive change.
Reflecting on my day, I felt a surge of gratitude. My struggles pale in comparison to the hardships others face. It's a reminder to cherish each day, spread kindness, and remember that faith can be rekindled, even after periods of doubt.
